Painting Knowledge
Painting is more than just applying paint. In fact, applying paint usually takes less than half the total time for a given project.
Here's why.
Gaining Access
Naturally, before you can paint something, you need to reach it. Sometimes it's as simple as moving the sofa out of the way; sometimes bushes need to be pulled away from the side of a house; sometimes fixtures need to be removed; sometimes gaining access involves ladders or scaffolds, or even powered manlifts to reach the places that need paint. At VanDutch painting, we are skilled and experienced at gaining access, and of course we are careful with your property while doing so.
Preparation for Painting
Before any work can begin, the jobsite itself must be properly covered to ensure that unpainted surfaces such as furniture and floors stay clean.
Then the painted surfaces can be prepared. Even the best paint will not produce satisfactory results if the surface to be painted is not prepared properly. This involves removing any barriers to adhesion, such as loose paint, grease, dirt, or gloss. Sanding, chemicals, and - often - a lot of elbow grease are required for this job. (It is also the part of the job that careless painters often fail to do well.)
Once that is done, repairing the surface to be painted can begin. Knowing what patching compounds and/or caulking to use is important, and applying them properly is a skill in itself.
The final preparatory step is applying the right primer or sealer when necessary.
Paint Application
Once the painter has prepared the jobsite, the surfaces to be painted, and gained access, the actual application process can begin. This is the most rewarding part of the job, when all the hard work of preparation pays off. The paint must be of the right type and applied by brush, roller or spray as appropriate.
At VanDutch, we never cut corners. We always use the best paint for the job and apply it to manufacturers' specified coverage rates. Smooth application and straight, clean lines take practice, and we have plenty of that!
Cleanup
Painting can be a messy job, but at VanDutch we make sure that is never a concern for our customers. We will vacuum, replace furniture, rehang picures or anything else necessary to enable you to relax and enjoy your beautiful new paint.
